Leonidas Christos Karagkounis

I am a doctoral candidate in Computer Science at the Department of Applied Informatics, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, and a member of the MSN Lab, where I am supervised by Prof. Ioannis Mavridis.

My research concerns human-centric explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) for security operations centers (SOCs). I investigate adaptive explanation methods for machine-learning-based detection, with the aim of supporting analysts in the detection of and response to advanced persistent threats, and of fostering appropriately calibrated trust in automated decisions. I hold an MSc in Data Science and Machine Learning (2025) and a BSc in Computer Science (2022) from the Hellenic Open University, and previously studied Mathematics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Alongside my doctoral studies, I provide independent research and consulting services in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
